A few days ago, a good news came from the Yuanlu 30 well in northeastern Sichuan. The impregnated diamond drill bit developed by Shengli Oilfield Drilling Institute was successfully applied in the well and created a new record of 158.56 meters for a single diamond drill in the region. The impregnated diamond drill bit is a new type of drill developed by Shengli Oilfield Drilling Institute for the poor drillability of rock in northeastern Sichuan, the difficulty of the drill bit and slow drilling speed. The working layer of the drill bit is composed of diamond and carcass material, which is fundamentally different from the diamond-inlaid diamond bit. The cutting teeth of the impregnated drill bit are not edged but are embedded in the carcass material, and the rock breaking mechanism approximates the grinding of the grinding wheel. The principle is that the rock is broken by grinding at high speed for drilling. The impregnated diamond drill bit used in the Yuanlu 30 well entered the well on March 30. On April 7th, it was drilled into the formation, drilling 3818.5 meters to 3977.06 meters, the footage was 158.56 meters, and the pure drilling time was 130 hours. The drilling rate is 1.22 meters per hour. The well has a total length of 120.5 meters for the two cone bits before the application of the impregnated diamond drill bit. The total pure drilling time is 183 hours and the average mechanical drilling speed is 0.66 meters per hour. Compared with the diamond drill bit, the footage increased by 163.17% and the mechanical drilling speed increased by 84.85%. The successful application of the impregnated diamond drill bit in the Yuanlu 30 well not only created a new record for the single diamond drill bit in the region, but also solved the problems of less roller cone drill bit and slow mechanical drilling speed, and speeded up the difficult drilling of the northeastern Sichuan. The improvement provides a new "tool".
